Order of Protection
An Order of Protection can be issued by the Court to protect the Petitioner (person seeking the Order of Protection) from the Respondent (person who allegedly harmed or threatened to harm the Petitioner.) There are two different forums for getting an Order of Protection: Criminal Court and Family Court. An Order of Protection from either forum can address your safety concerns, including domestic violence, but they differ in a variety of ways.
